This is a precision shooting event using traditional cap & ball (black powder) revolvers shooting at Olympic International 25 metre targets. The match comprises 2 details of 10 scored shots at 25m followed by a further 2 details of 10 scoring shots at 50m.

Island Games Black Powder ace, Mick Radcliffe, led the way at the half way stage. However, when the targets were moved back to 50m Mark Douglas held both his nerve and his aim to secure the match.

The video below is about fourteen minutes long as much of the loading (and fussing) time has been trimmed – even still, it is not visually compelling viewing.

Safety is our primary concern at the Jersey Pistol Club. Every visitor to the range is provided with a mandatory safety briefing before being allowed on the range. All shooters are expected to handle their firearms safely and are carefully observed by the Range Officers while shooting on the range.

Recently we had a new shooter firing on the range. He’s a young lad, and this was his second visit to the club. During his shooting he demonstrated perfectly the four ACTS of firearms safety, as you can see in the video below.

The first session will take place on Sunday 26th February on the 50m range at 14.00.

The club possesses a couple of suitable pistols for loan and ammunition will be available from Mark.

A follow on session will take place on Sunday 11th March (again not the Saturday as listed).

If you are interested in attending please let John Sawyer or Mark Douglas know so that they can make sure that there will be enough pistols available.

Don’t forget that ISSF competitions take place every Sunday morning at 09.00 (latest check-in is 08.45) which is an excellent way of clearing the mental fuzz and further information is available from Derek Bernard. There will be coaching for this discipline, conducted by Doug Glaister who helps us every year, on the week-end of 7/8 April. More details to follow nearer the date.

If you would like to try pistol shooting, current legislation requires that you are a member of the club. To meet legislative requirements, we are able to offer you a provisional membership which allows you to use the club facilities to try pistol shooting – under careful guidance and instruction.

For those individuals who have decided to take up pistol shooting we offer a number of memberships, depending on your residential status, age, and familial circumstances.

JPC 2012 Pistol Competition Programme

On 29th July Jersey Evening Post, Jersey’s bible, in association with Jersey Side by Side, a charity fund raising organisition, launched a “Big Days Out”  campaign to raise desperately needed money for the earthquake victims of Haiti who are still suffering unimaginable hardship.

The event which ran between the middle of September to middle of October hoped to feature visits to unusual places for which visitors would be invited to pay a fee to swell these funds.

Some of the unusual visits on offer included a spooky night-time ghost tour to Mont Orgueil Castle which towers over Gorey Harbour and the Royal Bay of Grouville with the French coast on the other side.

Special tours of St Ouen and Samares Manors.

The first opening for a generation of artist John Everett Millais’s amazing garden .

A tour of the new refuse incinerator (Jersey’s second carbuncle) at La Collette.

A visit to Corbiere lighthouse (the first Trinity House lighthouse built of concrete in the UK and the most southerly).

A rare peek into the Treasury’s secret vault where the Island’s cash reserves are held (not much in there at the moment I suspect!).

A stinky tour of the sewage treatment plant in Bellozane Valley.

A chance to milk a cow the old fashioned way with a three legged stool and bucket or to become a shepherd for the day.

The opportunity to put out fires under the guidance of the Fire and Rescue Service.

A tour of the Jersey Brewery with a chance to sample the amber nectar with the head brewer.

Our club hosted a “Big Day Out” on Saturday 24th September in response to the JEP’s appeal. It was hoped  to raise a further £16,000 for the earthquake victims in Haiti, money which is required to help buy grinding mills to grind corn and maize which up to now has gone to waste through lack of storage, to feed desperate people.

We had an excellent response with ten people on the firing line at 09.30 and a further thirteen at 11.30, all paying £15.00 for the experience. A dozen volunteer Range Officers were in attendance to ensure safety.

We followed the usual format of a safety talk first and then practical experience on the range. We also  used the tried and tested formula of recording highest score and a handicap score to show the most improved shooters.

Medals were awarded to the winners and attached is a picture of Derek Bernard with winners, Mark Fullerton MD , and joint handicap winners, David and Mrs Panter.

Everyone enjoyed the new experience and indeed many have returned and are regular visitors to the range.

Most importantly we accrued £345 for the appeal so well done everybody.
